Ayer WWTP has saved more than $38,000 a year on energy and increased life time expectations of the UV disinfection system.

In 2001 Enaqua was contacted by the City of Point Pleasant with a request to upgrade their existing UV solution. Reduced man hours for maintenance and operational costs were important parameters in the selection of a new UV system. The City of Pt. Pleasant had an existing UV disinfection system, however the old system involved cumbersome maintenance of the quartz sleeves and the UV lamps. This resulted in extended labor and replacement costs.

Hatfield Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) was operating a Contact UV in-channel system, when they in 2010 contacted Enaqua with the request of piloting a Non-Contact UV solution. Hatfield experienced severe problems with algae fouling on their 1200+ UV lamps, which required them to clean all the lamps 2-3 times each month. This was both costly and time-consuming maintenance work.

Denison WWTP installed Enaqua`s UV solution for low quality water without the need for extensive pre-treatment systems. Denison received a cease and desist order in 2012. The plant had to overcome its wastewater disinfection issues, and sought after a sustainable solution. The major suppliers of UV disinfection equipment said that it was impossible to go for UV technology – without installing extensive pre-treatment systems. Enaqua in contrast, asked permission to perform a pilot testing and proved that UV truly is an option without the need for pre-treatment.

Water is scarce and in high demand in the mountain desert town of Payson, Arizona. So the city reuses its water. It sends the cleaned wastewater to a public recreational lake and then onward for irrigating green areas in public parks, golf courses and schools. Therefore, it is vital that the water is treated correctly and thoroughly, or else it would put people’s health at risk.

Cortland is Illinois’ first wastewater reuse project and was based on treating wastewater by the use of a local lagoon system. UV disinfection is not normally in conjunction with lagoon effluent. The low quality of the water decreases the UV transmittance, and thus compromises the required disinfection. However, through close collaboration with the engineering firm Sheaffer Environmental; a complete treatment process was devised and approved by the State of Illinois.

Treatments in industrial applications cover a wide range of solutions from water treatment, process water, and wastewater to such as chemical recovery, juice disinfection, etc. Over the years, Enaqua has supplied sustainable solutions in all of the above mentioned areas. We have worked for industries such as mining, textile, food & beverage and aquaculture, and we look forward to apply our expertise to solve your needs.

The Dairy Operation manufactures dairy products and drinks – ice creams, yogurt, milk, ice teas, lemonades, etc. All of the wastewater generated from the processing operations go to an in-house wastewater treatment plant and is then discharged to the local river. The Dairy Operation previously disinfected its water with a chlorine chemical dosing (CL2) system and dealt with unreliable monitoring instrumentation, chemical storage, chemical feeding and possible off-gassing issues. Because of this, one of The Dairy Operation’s top priorities, when they decided to replace their CL2 system, was to find a disinfection solution that was reliable and simple to maintain.
