Environmental Impact Assessment

The successful completion of an environmental impact assessment is a complex task. EIA is multidisciplinary, systematic and predictive and, as such, it is different from the more retrospective process of environmental audit.

Environmental Review

EnviroGulf Consulting provides an environmental review service to clients who wish to have their environmental management and monitoring programs critically appraised for relevance, comprehensiveness and credibility.

Environmental Auditing Services

EnviroGulf Consulting provides an initial environmental review and auditing service to clients who wish to have their environmental management and monitoring programs critically appraised for relevance, comprehensiveness and credibility.

Environmental Sampling and Surveys Services

EnviroGulf Consulting is experienced in the full range of sampling methods and techniques used in the appraisal of aquatic biological communities for the purposes of surveillance and monitoring, trophic structure analysis, and contaminant assessment.

Environmental Risk Assessment

Risk assessment and risk management are being applied more and more routinely by government and industry to evaluate the impact of potentially hazardous substances and situations. EnviroGulf Consulting undertakes environmental risk assessments as part of a multidisciplinary team and, or, solely in the execution of ecological risk assessments.

Aquatic Toxicity and Ecotoxicological Impact Assessment

EnviroGulf Consulting assesses contaminant risk to ecological resources using an ecotoxicological and extrapolation approach based on: reviews and evaluations of contaminant data to identify the nature of the hazard; reviews of toxicity data in the literature; identification of the conditions of exposure (e.g., intensity, frequency, and duration of exposure) based on either monitoring data or predicted by modelling; and a combination of the information on toxicity and exposure data to estimate the probability that receiving water organisms may be adversely affected by the contaminant(s) or wastewater discharge being examined.

Environmental Monitoring Services

A sound program of environmental management and monitoring enables public and private sector clients to continually assess the impacts of their development projects and operations on the environment, and to take remedial action where unacceptable impacts are indicated. EnviroGulf Consulting undertakes the planning, commissioning and execution of monitoring programs in relation to receiving freshwater, estuarine and marine ecosystems. The programs are designed to satisfy environmental quality objectives and the requirements of regulatory authorities.

Mining and Sediment Impacts Services

Adverse environmental impacts can arise from the accelerated entry of sediments into receiving waters, and mining developments have the potential to create such problems. When a surface mine is excavated, originally consolidated overburden material is fractured, removed and then backfilled as a heterogeneous mixture. This results in a large mass of permeable material (mining spoil) subject to weathering and erosion that may affect the quality of water intercepted by the spoil or receiving its drainage waters. EnviroGulf Consulting can make predictions of the magnitude, frequency and duration of suspended sediment concentrations in receiving waters under different flow regimes. These data may then be used in a probabilistic assessment of aquatic biological effects.

Mining and Cyanide Services

The management and treatment of cyanide-containing wastes and wastewaters from gold mining operations continues to be closely scrutinised by regulatory authorities. There have been examples of excursions of wastewaters containing cyanides due to spills and leaks from mills, ponds, leach pads, tailing dams, etc.
