ERG has considerable experience of scrubbing and recovering halogens and hydrogen halides from contaminated gas streams. In most cases, the discharge guarantee is 10mg/m3 HCI or HF and 5mg/m3 Cl2 to comply with site emissions standards. Scrubbing is into water for HCI recovery, or into a suitable alkaline solution for Cl2, HCI or HF removal where a salt solution is the scrubber effluent. ERG has been treating H2S in polluted gas streams for more than 40 years. We have broad experience in most sectors of the waste and chemical industries, and many more besides. We can offer a system which includes a packed tower scrubber using an alkaline scrubbing liquor, or for waste or waste water industry odour control we provide biological scrubbing and carbon filtration.
For processes generating significant quantities of ammonia in the vent gas, ERG has experience scrubbing this into dilute sulphuric acid solution to make >25% ammonium sulphate solution suitable for sale as fertiliser. Using the V-tex® scrubber which operates efficiently with viscous and high density scrubbing solutions, the liquid effluent stream can be controlled to a high concentration of (NH4)2SO4, minimising the water content and maximising the revenue stream from this liquid effluent. The solution can be further concentrated using an evaporator if required.
Many air pollution abatement systems need to treat a complex and varying cocktail of noxious contaminants. Common examples include halogenated (eg Cl2, HCl, HF, HBr, etc), nitrogen-containing (eg NH3, HCN, etc) and sulphur-containing (eg H2S, SO2, mercaptans) contaminants in combination with particulates (including sub-micron), VOCs, and sticky tars and silicates – we can treat them all!
