Environmental Consulting

LEED Consulting and Testing

First introduced in 1998 by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating system is a voluntary system designed to recognize buildings for sustainable construction, operation, and maintenance practices. JLC offers consulting services designed to meet the prerequisites and credits of the LEED environmental quality category as well as other sections of the standard, including the following:

Air Quality Testing

Indoor air quality (IAQ) is a term referring to the air quality within and around structures, especially as it relates to the health, comfort and productivity of building occupants.    Statistically, people are spending more time indoors than ever before and the air quality inside a building often mimics the air quality outside a building.

Microbiological Testing Services

Fungi (mold) and bacteria have become a big problem for owners, managers and occupants of real property.  JLC Environmental has been on the forefront of microbiological testing for many years.Microbial contaminants (fungi/bacteria) can cause adverse health effects on those who come in contact with them, especially those with compromised immune systems.   Mold is not a new phenomenon; however, `mold claims` have increased dramatically in the past several years. The major reasons for this increase include:

Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) Services

An Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) is a report prepared for a real estate holding which identifies potential or existing environmental contamination liabilities. The analysis typically addresses both the underlying land as well as physical improvements to the property. Contaminated sites are often referred to as `brownfield sites.`

Lead (Pb) Based Paint Consulting and Management Services

Lead Based Paint (LBP) and Lead Containing Paint is a concern in many buildings built before 1978.  The primary concern with having leaded paint in your facility is lead poisoning from inhaling or ingesting lead dust.

Industrial Hygiene Services

Industrial Hygiene (IH) is the discipline of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and controlling health hazards in occupational settings.   Prevention of workplace injuries and illnesses is the primary goal of Industrial Hygiene.

Hazardous Materials Management Services

Dangerous goods, also called hazardous materials (or HazMat), are solids, liquids, or gases that can harm people, other living organisms, property, or the environment.  Hazardous materials include those that are radioactive, flammable, explosive, corrosive, oxidizing, asphyxiating, biohazards, toxic, pathogenic, or allergenic.  Also included are materials whose physical conditions (e.g. compressed gases, liquids, and hot materials) may be problematic or may they have other characteristics that render them hazardous in specific circumstances.
