Iceland introduced the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process into law in 1993, based on European Union directives.  Since then, Mannvit has been an active leader in this field of EIA services, managing both large and small-scale initiatives on all levels.

Strategic environmental assessment (SEA) is a law that has been in place in Iceland since 2006. The aim of the law is to encourage sustainable development, reduce negative environmental impact and ensure that environmental matters are taken into account when making strategic decisions in development planning. As an experienced consultant in the EIA field, Mannvit has also been in the forefront of SEA and often joins forces with planning consultants and local authorities in their strategic approach to development.

Mannvit is a leader in the drafting of environmental operating permits (EOP) for companies whose activities may involve the emission of pollutants. Often the granting of environmental permits are dependent on an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report.  Mannvit also specializes in both the handling of EIA`s and EOP`s, streamlining the process for our clients. The permitting process is based on Icelandic regulation no. 785/1999 which is based on European legislations.

Health - Safety - Environmental Management (HSE) is becoming an integral part of the management culture of companies and institutions.  As a fast growing corporate trend, Mannvit has assisted numerous companies in their strategic planning of HSE programs. Most of the larger industrial companies need to monitor the local environment and find solutions to minimize their pollution as a part of their Environmental Operation Permit (EOP).  Mannvit has been involved in the preparation of monitoring programs for large industrial companies in Iceland and also in project management and documentation.

Mannvit offers all traditional land surveying services such as, triangulation, grid surveying, deformation surveying, and supervision surveying in connection buildings, road construction, tunnels, harbours and other related projects. Land surveying is an integral part of most civil engineering projects and Mannvit`s employs professional land surveyors who have worked on public and private projects, both large and small, ranging from road and building construction, power transmission, harbours, industrial development and more. Mannvit`s surveyors are all trained to use the most up-to-date equipment from Trimble including GPS, total stations, digital levels and automatic level, as well as Leica total stations and automatic levels.

Mannvit offers comprehensive hydrology services, including early-stage field investigations to detail design to long-term monitoring.  Formally added to the available engineering services in 2006, hydrological services serve Mannvit`s goal of offering fully integrated engineering solutions.
