LiDAR (Light detecting and ranging) is a remote sensing tool now widely used and accepted in the wind industry by users and financial institutions.

Sound Detection and Ranging (SoDAR) is an acoustic based remote sensing technique used extensively in the wind industry. SoDAR can be used as a flexible site investigation and preliminary site prospecting tool to validate models and also investigate issues such as wind shear. Used predominantly onshore, and costing a third of the price of some LiDAR systems, SoDAR can prove to be a valuable asset for any analyst.

Based on our extensive field service experience we are pleased to be able to offer the RS Xplorer power trailer for remote sensing. The RS Xplorer is a flexible power delivery solution based on the EFOY 2400 methanol fuel cell, offering a platform to add additional power sources as required to meet the demands of the instrument in the field. The default specification adds 400Wp PV to the 110W EFOY solution to provide ample power to supply instruments such as the Natural Power ZephIR 300 and Leosphere V2 systems.

Scanning LiDAR is a new technique to wind energy. Utilising a single beam on a scan head with two degrees of freedom, a scanning LiDAR is capable of returning highly detailed wind information over long ranges.

Based on over 12 years of field service experience, Oldbaum have developed a range of LiDAR accessories to streamline remote sensing work in field deployments that allow for extending our existing LiDAR services to meet the exact requirement of our client`s projects. All of our accessories greatly improve the security of the product, whether that be data security, physical security or power supply security, all of which are addressed by our various additional LiDAR services, as outlined in this section.

Our RS Safe LiDAR accessories package has the security of our client`s equipmet at the heart of its design. It consists of a robust metal box that covers the LiDAR system and is held in place by ground anchors, making it tamper-proof and keeping your equipment safe at all times, even in the most remote locations.

As our enhanced data management solution, the RS Blackbox offers clients the option of backing up any data collected by the LiDAR on site to a local log-in computer ("Local PC" in the connectivity diagram below), in addition to it being transferred either to Oldbaum or directly to the client. This option makes all types of LiDAR deployments more extensible by allowing for both increased connectivity and enhanced data storage options.

This LiDAR accessory was created to both enhance communication and reduce uncertainty of asset management siginificantly. Designed to optimise data collection and equipment maintenance, as part of our RS Tooway Pro solution the client`s LiDAR equipment will be fitted with a satellite broadband modem that offers an inexpensive and very reliable method of gathering the desired data in all onshore and offshore locations. Using a satellite connection instead of a mobile phone line allows for using a bandwidth that lets you gather large amounts of data more easily. These can be sent either to Oldbaum for data handling, processing and interpretation, or directly to the client.

The Anywhere is the RS Xplorer`s trailer derivative, a flexible platform that that can support any type of remote sensing instrumentation, mounted on a custom-built all-terrain trailer suitable for the roughest of terrains.
