MASW Consultation Services

Are you considering an MASW survey for an upcoming project? Are you not sure what kind of results you can expect? What equipment do you need? Buy or lease? How to proceed with field operation? What to do with data analysis and reporting?... Are you not sure how and where to start? You can hire an expert through a consultation program here.

Data Process Services

Park Seismic provides services in data processing and reporting in MASW surveys for various types of projects (wind-turbine, soil, void, bedrock, weak zones, buried boundaries, etc.).  For cost-effective and time-efficient purposes, field surveys are  usually performed by a local geophysical company with experience in  zultichannel seismic surveys (refraction or reflection seismic surveys).

Full MASW Service (Field Survey, Data Analysis, and Reporting)

If possible, preparation of the following information will help facilitate the consultation: Purpose of the survey [e.g., wind-turbine site investigation, soil/bedrock mapping, seismic site characterization (Vs30m), compaction evaluation, grouting evaluation, target detection (voids, weak zones, bedrock valley, etc.), etc.]. Maximum depth of investigation (Zmax) (5 m, 10 m, 20 m, 30 m, > 30 m). Type of survey (1D, 2D cross section, multiple 2D cross sections). Approximate site dimension (width and length). Site condition [e.g., urban/suburban, surface topo (flat/undulating), roads, grassy/pavement/wet surface, etc.]. Lateral resolution to be achieved (low, medium, and high). Site photo (Google).

MASW Tool Package Lease Services

We provide a complete set of tools (hardware and software) for MASW investigation with short- (1 day) and long- (multiple month) term leases. Each package comes with a laminated (5-page) binder for data acquisition and processing instructions.  How to assemble hardware components and how to set data-recording software are graphically illustrated in the binder.  Each package comes with the ParkSEIS (v. 3.0) AUTO data-analysis software, which can be used in the field to automatically generate the desired result (1D profile or 2D cross section) after data acquisition. AUTO results are reliable for most MASW data sets (~75%) that have high-very high signal-to- noise (SN) ratios. Brief instructions on how to process more challenging data sets (low-medium SN ratios) are also graphically illustrated by following the conventional (manual) data-analysis sequences.

Active and Passive MASW Surveys in 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D Formats Services

Active surveys are performed by using an actively controlled seismic source such as a sledgehammer and an acquisition system consisting of a linear receiver array usually of 24-channels (or more). This type of survey is the most common and can usually achieve an investigation depth of 100 ft or less. Results can be 1-D, 2-D, or 3-D maps showing subsurface distribution of ground stiffness (quantitatively shear-wave velocity, Vs). These maps can show  bedrock depth and topography, location of weak zones (e.g., sink-hole hazard or fracture zones), buried boundaries (e.g., landfill, reclaimed zones), and soil characterization, among many other applications.
