Platform Services
Marine Transportation
Charters include agreements to provide long term marine transportation to near shore and offshore oil platforms as well as special projects. Ship Services has participated in special projects for ship-to-ship lightering operations, sonar surveys, sonar research, diving operations, light towing, range clearance, salvage operations, as well as television, commercial and movie productions. We have contracted with private companies and military contractors.
Vessel Support
Diver & ROV Support: So Cal Ship Services has worked with government, as well as, private entities conducting Dive and ROV work from Pt. Conception toSan Diego,California. IncludingSan Clemente, Santa Catalina, theChannel Islands, as well as, the sub surface inspections of every oil platform and their pipelines. This work has taken place mostly from our 110 foot OSV’s which have the capability of housing and feeding up to 16 riders in addition to the boats crew. One of these boats was sent toEnsenada,Mexicoto assist in the Salvage of the APL Panama that ran aground in December of 2005. Our boat was there for 75 days straight without coming ashore. All of our boats are very well suited. Each are equipped with Dive ladders and make great Dive platforms for one day, or overnight jobs, with multiple riders and their associated equipment.
Logistic / Expediting
Ship Services manages the flow of goods between 15 offshore oil platforms and various oil tanker fleets, expediting orders from hundreds of vendors to ensure efficient and timely delivery in order to meet the requirements of our customers. We utilize sophisticated computer systems and logistics teams, to accurately track all shipments from arrival to final destination 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Material Handling
Equipment: Forklift capacities range from 4,000 pounds to 30,000 pounds. Ship Services maintains a fleet of three mobile cranes with capacities ranging from 40-75 tons. All crane operators are CCO certified. Yard Facility: Ship Services has the space and equipment to handle cargo of all sizes both efficiently and safely. Yard space is also available for customers long term storage needs. All of our yard personnel are forklift certified, API RP 2D trained, and CCO certified. Truck Pickup and Deliveries: Truck services are provided for delivery and pick-up for the Western United States.
Water Taxi Services
Launch Services
Crew Runs: Ship Services provides water transportation of persons and cargo to vessels in Los Angeles and Long Beach Harbors and their outside anchorages; to El Segundo anchorages; and southern California offshore locations, including PAL (Pacific Area Lightering) and WCL (West Coast Lightering) areas. Cargo and returns from vessels are handled at our Terminal Island Facility (see Material Handling). Launches 35 feet to 85 feet embark and disembark passengers at our Terminal Island Facility and Long Beach Shoreline Village. Crewboats 85 feet to 100 feet and Offshore Supply Boats embark and disembark passengers at our Terminal Island Facility. Shoreline Village is the preferred location for Crew Runs because of access to public transportation and access to downtown Long Beach restaurants and shops.
Labor Services
Strike Downs: Ship Services provides skilled labor services for tanker vessel needs. Our labor services include the personnel and equipment needed to efficiently deliver and stow vessel provisions. We also assist with vessel required safety drills such as lifeboat launches and fire fighting exercises. Line Handlers: We provide trained, professional linesmen with the proper skills to safely tie up vessels of all sizes at LA/LB Berths. All linesmen are equipped with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) that include fire retardant coveralls, H2S monitors as well as life vests, steel toe shoes, safety glasses and hard hats.
Lightering Services
Hose Gangs: Ship Services provides professional, trained crews to assist in the mooring and unmooring of vessels engaged in ship-to-ship lightering, as well as, the connection and monitoring of transfer hoses. Ship Dressing: Ship Services provides crew, equipment, and vessels to assist in the dressing of vessels for preparation in ship-to-ship lightering. This can be done in the LA/LB harbors and the outer anchorages. Fender & Hose Maintenance: We provide solid core fenders for all in Harbor Lighterings and dock draft needs. We provide expert labor services to assist customers with the annual maintenance requirements for pneumatic fenders, as well as, hydrostatic testing for transfer hoses. AMPD Coverage: Ship Services will furnish all labor, materials, equipment, transportation, and supervision to perform AMPD coverage for lightering in accordance with California Code of Regulations.
Waste Management
Ship Services provides trash, foreign garbage and oil waste removal by launch and trash and foreign garbage removal by truck. Foreign garbage is all food waste, associated food packing material, including plastic food wrappers, beverage cans and containers (i.e., any item contaminated by food). Foreign garbage is regulated by Customs Border Protections (CBP). Trash includes cardboard, packing material, ash and general refuse that is generated by normal ship operations. It does not include dunnage, lashing or other items generated in the course of ship’s cargo. Oil waste includes oily rags, wipers, drained filters and absorbents.
Containment Booming
Lightering & Bunker Booming: Ship Services has been OSRO certified since 1991. All personnel are HAZWOPER trained and certified in oil spill response operations including boom deployment and skimming operations. Ship Services will immediately respond and furnish all labor, materials, boom, equipment, transportation, and supervision to perform booming coverage for all transfers in accordance with California Code of Regulations. Facility Booming: Ship Services provides preventative oil spill containment boom services for all California marine facilities. Facility Booming has been a core business for Ship Services. Our experience goes back to the pre-booming requirements implemented in OPA 90. We recognize the importance of continual monitoring of expected vessel movements through communication with the Terminal, ship’s agents, and AIS in order to adequately provide timely booming at facilities.
Fendering
Ship & Dock Fendering: Ship Services can provide solid fenders for in harbor use, dock, barge-to-ship and ship-to-ship transfers. Our fenders are approximately ten feet by twenty feet. Fender & Hose Maintenance: We provide expert labor services to assist all of our customers with the annual maintenance requirements for pneumatic fenders, as well as, Hydrostatic Testing for transfer hoses.
