Oil and water form their own layers, and particles are drawn together and either float to the top or settle at the bottom. You can see it when you look at the different layers formed in a bottle of Italian dressing that’s been left sitting undisturbed.

One of the key defining differences among industrial centrifuges is between “two-phase separation” and “three-phase separation.” Two-phase centrifuges (like the CentraSep S-126) are generally used for liquid-solid separation. For example, a two-phase centrifuge might be used to pull paint sludge from wash fluid. Three-phase centrifuges remove a solid from suspension while also separating two liquid phases (also called “liquid-liquid-solid separation”). A good centrifuge can remove metal fines from cutting fluid while also separating out tramp water—all in a single pass.

The CentraSep S-Series Centrifuge: High-Performance Two-Phase Solid/Liquid Separation. Given enough time, every solid will eventually fall out of suspension. But “enough time” can be days, months—even years. There are many different styles of centrifugal separation equipment to consider: screen/scroll centrifuges, large horizontal decanter centrifuge, tubular bowl centrifuges, disc stack centrifuges, and more. Adding a DCO syrup conditioner to your extraction system is a step in the right direction.
