Water Resource Associates LLP software

HYSIM-AQUATOR was developed jointly by Water Resource Associates and Oxford Scientific Software Ltd during a three-year research and development contract for SNIFFER in 1999-2001. The results of the research were published by the Foundation for Water Research in February 2001.

Water Resource Associates is associated with Chiltern Digitising Services (CDS). Since 1987, CDS has specialized in the conversion of chart-recorded data. Working for every region of the Environment Agency, their bureau service has handled well over 2000 station years of UK water level chart data.

DISPRIN is a new model of dispersion has been developed to simulate the impact of pollutant discharges on river systems. The model accounts for the main dispersion processes operating in rivers as well as the dilution from incoming tributaries and first-order kinetic decay processes. The model is dynamic and simulates the hourly behaviour of river flow and pollutants along river systems.

HYDRO and HYDRO 10 are programs developed in Fortran 90 and MS Visual Basic by WRA during the 1990s to simulate multi-purpose operation of reservoirs for hydropower generation, irrigation supply, water supply, flood control and compensation flow. WRA continues to maintain HYDRO for “existing” clients still using the software, but those wishing to use hydrological data for simulation of complex water resource systems including reservoirs are encouraged to adopt AQUATOR.

HYSIM is a hydrological simulation model (rainfall-runoff model) which uses rainfall and potential evaporation data to simulate the hydrological cycle (surface runoff, percolation to groundwater and river flow) on a continuous basis.

Water Resource Associates produces a wide range of hydrological software. For example, HYSIM is a rainfall/runoff model which the Environment Agency has purchased for all of its regional offices. WRA have recently constructed a model linking rainfall/runoff has been linked to climate change scenarios, the first model of its kind in the world: HYSIM-CC (Hydrological Simulation model for Climate Change).

INCA is now sold in conjunction with the University of Reading, UK.  INCA is a processed-based dynamic model providing representation of plant and soil system dynamics and in-stream biogeochemical and hydrological dynamics.
