REPLACING WATER SOFTENER WITH GREEN SCALEWATCHER WATER CONDITIONER

Roper’s Restaurant, a cowboy themed restaurant in Albuquerque, New Mexico has replaced its water softener with the computerized, electronic, water-conditioner Scalewatcher from Scalewatcher North America. By installing Scalewatcher, the restaurant has avoided paying the $500 quoted for replacement media for its old water softener and also saved hundreds of dollars a year in salt and water thereby providing Roper’s with a short-term payback on the unit. Roper’s Restaurant, part of Outwest Eateries LLC dba, is located in a hard water area. This necessitated Bryce Chant, owner of Roper’s Restaurant using a water softener to prevent scale formation in the kitchen. “When I was given the price to repair our old water softener, I decided to install the Scalewatcher from Advance Plumbing”, said Bryce Chant of Roper’s Restaurant. We have had great success with it. Even though we had a water softener we still had hard water scale and a white ‘film’ in the dishwasher. Now with Scalewatcher that scale and ‘film’ has disappeared.” The average restaurant consumes 5,800 gallons of water daily, with 50% being used in the kitchen. If not properly treated, hard water can drain a restaurant’s bottom line due to the early renewal of capital equipment such as water heaters, boilers, coffee makers, dishwashers, steamers and other water-fed equipment. Hard water contains calcium carbonate that adheres to heating elements and the internal surfaces causing scale buildup that impairs efficiency. The limescale that deposits on the heating element will, if untreated, reduces efficiency, induces corrosion of the element and ultimately lead to appliance failure. In addition in restaurants, hard water also necessitates the use of additional detergents. In fact, for every additional grain of hard water, detergent use increases by between 2% and 4% per 1,000 gallons of water used. Many restaurants, like Roper’s use a water softener to reduce limescale. However, water softeners use copious amounts of both water and salt, which are expensive to buy and salt is also bulky to store. In addition, in many States now, including Southern California, municipalities and water departments are severely limiting, and in some cases prohibiting, the use of salt-regenerating water softeners due to concern regarding the increased levels of salt in ground water.
