Aqua-Guardian - Catch Basin Insert
The patented Aqua-Guardian Catch Basin Insert is a post-construction flow-through water quality device custom designed to effectively remove sediment, trash & debris, heavy metals bound to particulate matter and oil. The Aqua-Guardian™ captures gross pollutants while simultaneously providing a high level of filtration treatment of stormwater runoff or industrial water discharges. The Aqua-Guardian™ uses the same types of filter media that are also used in the Aqua-Filter™ Stormwater Filtration System.
The most commonly used media in the Aqua-Guardian™ and Aqua-Filter™ is perlite. Other filter media such as granular activated carbon (GAC), leaf compost, zeolite and various media blends are also available for the Aqua-Guardian™ to meet site-specific discharge criteria. Implementing a consistent maintenance program will result in long term operational and performance efficiency for the Aqua-Guardian™ insert.
Operation begins when stormwater enters the Aqua-Guardian™ from the surface and accumulates in the sediment chamber. As runoff continues, water flows through the locked filter screen standpipe and is evenly distributed over the filter media. Water permeates downward by gravity flow through the filter media before exiting the insert through the base plate. As the runoff flow rate continues to increase, water rises in the sediment chamber to the level of the filter screen outlets that are built into the perimeter of the structure. The internal high-flow bypass openings at the top of the structure minimize the potential of water backing onto the surface grade. The baffle formed by the stainless steel support collar prevents captured debris from exiting through the overflow holes.
