BioFuel - Membrane Units for Separation of Fermentation Liquids
The separation or refinement of stillage or digestate from bioenergy production is an important aspect of bioenergy production. Conventional bioethanol production is based on steam distillation of ethanol and subsequent evaporation of the stillage and production of distillers dried grains with solubles. The remaining water may partly be recycled to the process or disposed off to a wastewater treatment plant.

The evaporation of the stillage is energy intensive and the BioFuel Technology A/S are developing a membrane process by which stillage is separated (filtered) at a much lower energy and running cost.
The membrane unit may be custom made for any specific purpose and fit into any production site. It may also be mounted in a container and supplied as a “turn key” or “plug in” module.
The membrane system includes possible pre-filtering or dewatering of stillage before membrane filtration. It also includes reverse osmosis (RO-membranes) depending on the water quality to be achieved.
The BioFuel Technology ApS supplies turn key process plants for the complete treatment of a stillage or any other process stream from bioenergy production.
