Industrial Gas Scrubber

SHARE
A scrubber is a device used to purify air polluted with gases and dust, used in numerous industries and municipal services. It is used in wastewater treatment plants, industrial plants, biogas plants, waste sorting plants, and landfills, as well as in installations with high concentrations of odorous substances such as hydrogen sulfide or ammonia. A scrubber is a reactor in which unwanted pollutants contained in the gas phase are absorbed by the liquid phase through a chemical reaction. The polluted air flows through a column filled with a bed sprayed with an aqueous solution of a specially selected substance, enabling effective removal of harmful compounds and odor neutralization. Scrubbers are selective devices, meaning that only one or more chemical compounds with similar reactivity characteristics are retained within the volume of a single scrubber column.

INSTALLATION:

The scrubber is mounted on a foundation or stable surface, to which ventilation and electrical ducts, as well as the flushing water supply system, are connected. A key element of the scrubber is the storage tank and the chemical supply system. The device incorporates important measuring devices responsible for maintaining the scrubber's proper operating parameters, such as pH or ORP. A sewage system is provided to drain excess process fluid. The optimal location for a scrubber is in a heated room, as this eliminates the need for complex anti-icing systems, which also increase electricity costs. An emergency shower with an eyewash station should be installed near scrubbers using acids or bases to ensure safe working conditions for the operating personnel.

EFFECTIVE TECHNOLOGY

By using a chemical process to trap unwanted gases in a liquid, the scrubber effectively eliminates odorous substances from the air. Selecting appropriate aqueous solutions (e.g., acidic or alkaline solutions) allows the technology to be tailored to the specific type of odorous substances present.

EASY TO USE

Scrubber maintenance is limited to monitoring the operation of the circulation pump and fan, and replenishing the scrubbing fluid. Modern measurement systems enable continuous monitoring of operating parameters such as flow, pH, and the concentration of selected compounds. Regular inspections and maintenance ensure long and trouble-free operation of the device.

APPLICATION

The use of scrubbers is particularly beneficial in areas with very high concentrations of a single chemical polluting the atmosphere. In such cases, the use of activated carbon could result in very high operating costs due to frequent carbon bed replacement.
