Turtle Q-Ring - Large Biocell Cement Structures Covered

The new TURTLE Q-RING technology is based on Entsorga’s extended experience in composting and biostabilisation using aerated solutions to accelerate the oxidation phase (ACT) of waste decomposition. Entsorga recommends this plant for tonnages below 40,000 tpa of waste input and where flexibility is a major requirement.

The TURTLE Q-RING is a modular solution, where each module is composed of typically one biocell reactor (capacity: 400-500 m3 each), ventilation system, pipelines, process monitoring system (temperature probes) and an automated system to manage the overall process parameters. Each biocell reactor is a cement structure with an aerated plateau embedded within a concrete floor and specially designed roof structures which is covered with the "Q-Ring" breathable sheets.

The accelerated bio-oxidation of the material is provided by a dedicated system of ventilation that provides the biomass with the required oxygen for the correct development of the bio-oxidation reaction. The accelerated bio-oxidation period is between 8 - 21 days, depending on the desired degree of stability of the material and on the type of the waste being treated.

The system is controlled and managed by an automated system that measures the temperature of the biomass and consequently controls the air flow for each biocell reactor by regulating the frequency converters. It also controls the dedicated moisturing system inside the biocell. All the data is recorded and properly stored in order to have a record of the process for each batch.

The bio-oxidation (ACT) cycle for waste biostabilisation is usually 20dd for MSW; for composting (ACT phase) is usually 14dd.

Savings in Construction
The biocells are covered with the "Q-Ring" breathable sheets, which filter the insufflated air directly into the atmosphere, avoiding the need to construct a dedicated Biofilter for air treatment.
