RDL - Lake Geotextile Liners
Lake liners form a fundamental part in the success of man-made lake construction where water lose through ground seepage needs to be prevented. Water has been a key element in gardens and landscape design for many, many years. Ponds and lakes can be very beautiful and a haven for wildlife. Installing a quality lake lineror pond liner to prevent water leakage will help extend the life of a garden pond or lake. Russetts Developments Ltd (RDL) custom fabricates lake liners to the exact size required for lake constructions of all sizes.
Thorough planning and well-managed construction will result in a successful creation. This is testament to a pond or lake that looks healthier, has larger fish, fewer aquatic weeds, less leakage and a more aesthetic and natural appearance than one that hasn`t been well managed during and after construction.
Lakes are designed and constructed for many purposes such as golf courses, reservoirs, wildlife habitats and fisheries. Gardens ponds can be of the ornamental formal types to the less formal, irregular shaped natural ponds. Whatever the purpose for construction is, they both need to be lined with a flexible rubber liner to keep the body of water full and maintain better water quality.
All lakes and many garden ponds tend to attract wildlife whether that was your prime objective or not. Special attention is therefore required for the construction and design of wildlife ponds; as to be successful it must be sufficiently natural to provide all the normal habitats and foods required by wildlife. The lining system must not detract from the natural uses of the pond but must also not be damaged by the wildlife.
RDL recommend that adding a layer of protective liner will protect the linings of lakes and garden ponds. All surfaces on which the lining is to be laid must be prepared so that no damage to the lining is possible. The surface needs to be cleared of all rocks, sticks, stones, roots, sharp objects or debris of any kind. The surface should provide a firm unyielding foundation for the pond or lake liner with no sudden, sharp or abrupt change in gradient. The protective underlay should only be Installed when there is no standing water or excess moisture present in the bug out.
RDL offer a variety of geotextile protective underlay to provide a high level of protection to pond or lake liners in a convenient and cost effective way.
Types of underlay are; TenCate Polyfelt products TS60 or TS50 and Cosmotec LPP250M. We can also supply a range of specialized geotextile protective underlays for specific jobs as required.
Often the upper slopes of lakes or ponds are exposed to damage mostly from visiting wildlife and it is good practice to cover these areas with a depth of soil, which will sustain vegetation. The geotextile will protect the liner from puncture from this cover whilst also providing a degree of slope stability.
We fabricate and supply the liners required to line lakes above or between the protective underlay to keep them water tight.
For big projects we create larger liners by joining together two or more sheets. The superior anti-aging properties and UV resistance of EPDM makes it the best choice for lake liners.
