Tekran - Model JITRbug - Mercury Test Gas Generator
From Natural Gas-Industry
One of the limitations of hand-held mercury air monitors is the ability to test the systems against a known mercury gas standard to confirm accuracy. Hand-held mercury monitors are subjected to a wide range of field conditions that can impact overall stability and accuracy. Based upon our NIST traceable calibrators used for emissions monitoring, the JITRBug system provides a well-characterized mercury gas standard for auditing hand-held or other air mercury monitoring equipment.

Ensuring worker safety from toxic levels of air mercury requires accurate and precise hand-held mercury monitors. The Tekran® JITRbug Instrument is designed as a rapid performance assessment tool for hand-held mercury industrial hygiene monitors. The system uses a built-in saturated mercury source to produce mercury test atmospheres of known concentration. The system has dual front panel testing ports to audit external equipment and confirm accurate response. The JITRbug system is designed to be simple and foolproof to operate, so even untrained workers can readily audit hand-held mercury monitors.
Due to their small size, hand-held mercury monitors, used for industrial hygiene, do not include a calibration or alternative accuracy assessment capabilities. Typically, workers and industrial hygiene experts must assume a hand-held mercury monitor is providing accurate and precise results. Calibration and performance assessment may be periodically completed at the factory or using complicated and error prone laboratory procedures. The Tekran JITRBug overcomes these issues by delivering a precisely controlled mercury test gas of known concentration. Using the JITRbug, a simple and quick 5-minute test of a hand-held mercury monitor will confirm instrument performance, so field measurements can be completed with confidence to protect workers. The mercury source flow and dilution air flow are precisely controlled by dual MFC’s, enabling the system to quickly switch between output Hg concentrations of 30 ug/m3, 50 ug/m3, and 100 ug/m3.
