Over the last 20 years Boskalis Environmental has specialized in the design and management of large dredging depots (e.g., Confined Disposal Facilities, or CDFs). These depots are sometimes used for temporary storage of dredged sediments before being processed into building material. One area of such responsibility is the management of the Slufter dredging depot located in the Maasvlakte industrial zone near the port of Rotterdam. With a surface area of 200 hectares and a storage capacity of 100 million cubic meters, the Slufter is the biggest dredging depot in the Netherlands. Managing this depot enables Boskalis Environmental to thoroughly explore both the way dredging sediments behave in the long term and the possibilities for large-scale processing of dredging sediments into building materials.
