Site Containment – Site Safeguarding
Since a complete removal of old landfill sites is not always desirable due to safety concerns as well as the costs securing of individual sites , is becoming more and more popular. Measures to secure residual contamination can present an economic and at times the only possible - and cost-efficient alternative to the remediation procedure. A high technical standard plays an important role for the sustainability of the measure taken.
An overview of the most important methods which have been utilized by BMU:
Encapsulation vertical/horizontal:
a) vertical e.g. VIB wall, sheet pile wall, diaphragm cut-off wall, Mixed-in-Place (MIP)-wall, bored pile wall, CSM-wall
b) horizontal e.g. high pressure/low pressure injection, Tube-à-Manchette-injection
Immobilisation of the toxic substances:
e.g. Mixed-in-Place (MIP)-Elements, Cutter-Soil-Mixing (CSM)-Elements, High pressure/low-pressure injection body, etc.
