Solarmeter's Model 4.2 is a great choice for affordable but extremely accurate instantaneous UV measurements from both UV lamps and sunlight. Common uses include window film tests, low level UV from household lamps, ground level UV from stadium lighting, and outdoor shady area readings.

The NIST traceable Model 4.2 features an irradiation range of 0-1999 microwatts per cm squared UVA, and response of 320-400 nanometers. Resolution is 1 microwatt per cm squared, with extremely high accuracy of +/-10%. The sensor itself is a silicon photodiode with UV filter, which is completely insensitive to visible light longer than 400 nanometers and infrared radiation, because its spectral response only covers the UVA region from 320-400 nanometers.

This handheld model's rugged plastic case is palm-sized for effortless portability, measuring a compact 4.2” long x 2.4” wide x 0.9” deep and weighing only 4.5 ounces, including the 9V battery. The battery works down to 6.5VDC before requiring replacement, so it should last approximately 2 years under typical service load.

Using this Solarmeter unit is easy. First, unpack it, and store the calibration certificate for your records. Then, remove it from its included carrying case. Finally, simply press and hold the push button switch on the front face of the unit, aim the sensor window on the top panel of the meter directly at the UV source, and note the reading on the 3.5 digit LCD display.
