Solarmeter's Model 5.7 is the premier choice for affordable but extremely accurate low-level UV measurements. Applications include instantaneous window film tests, low level household lamp UV tests, ground level stadium lighting UV tests, measuring UV through airplane cockpit windows, eyewear, museum windows, shady outdoor readings, and tests related to xeroderma pigmentosum. It's ideal for parents and teachers of children with xeroderma pigmentosum, window film manufacturers and installers, TV studio lighting technicians, airlines, and eyewear providers.
The NIST traceable 5.7 features an irradiation range of 0-1999 microwatts per cm squared total UV and a bandwidth response of 280-400 nanometers UVB through UVA, with resolution of 1 microwatt per cm squared and extremely high accuracy of +/-10%. The sensor is insensitive to visible light longer than 400nm and infrared radiation since its spectral response covers only the UVA and UVB bandwidth.
This handheld model's rugged plastic case is palm-sized for effortless portability, measuring a compact 4.2” long x 2.4” wide x 0.9” deep and weighing only 4.5 ounces, including the 9V battery. The battery works down to 6.5VDC before requiring replacement, so it should last approximately 2 years under typical service load.
Using this Solarmeter unit is easy. First, unpack it, and store the calibration certificate for your records. Then, remove it from its included carrying case. Finally, simply press and hold the push button switch on the front face of the unit, aim the sensor window on the top panel of the meter directly at the UV source, and note the reading on the 3.5 digit LCD display.
