Beck GmbH
The company`s first focus is on the development, testing and production of sewer and shaft equipment. Our innovations in suitable, safe and versatile duct and shaft units serve our customers` market needs. Valuable experience and the most diverse requirements of the predominantly municipal customers flowed into the development work and thus into many new developments. Thanks to intelligent product innovations and constant further developments , our unique, reliable and patented products are highly valued in the industry. BECK developed into the first and largest specialist service provider, who is also the only manufacturer to be able to offer a complete range with more than 500 coordinated special items around the manhole.

About Us
The history of the Beck company is a single string of inventions and clever tinkering.Erhard Beck, who was originally the sales manager for road salt for the south salt, repeatedly saw on the building yards that he visited that people struggled to open shafts and repair them. The new standard introduced at the time exacerbated this problem because it stipulated a greater weight for the covers of the manhole covers.
Well-thought-out and functional material was not available at the time. In the absence of special aids, the workers at the building yards had to laboriously lift shaft covers out of their frames with unsuitable tools, such as pickaxes or iron hooks. Of course there were always accidents. Erhard Beck wanted to change that.
This is how he designed his first manhole cover lifting trolley, which was suitable for several manhole cover types. He founded his own company in 1975. Two years later, a specialist magazine published an article on the connection between improvised lever tools and the number of accidents at work in the field of shaft work.
That gave the then one-man company a huge boost.
Erhard Beck had encountered a gap in the market with his first problem solution!
Inspired by this success, the company grew steadily.
Thanks to Erhard Beck's ingenuity and drive for innovation, he constantly found new solutions to problems, and he always developed and produced new products around the shaft and the canal.
BECK already had 35 patents and utility models just a few years after the company was founded.
In 2001, his son, André Beck, who learned from an early age how to use all shaft equipment, took over the management. Since then there have been two inventors and developers at BECK.
Due to the increasing traffic load and the increasingly frequent heavy load traffic, shaft cones were increasingly destroyed, which then had to be repaired by the municipalities and civil engineering companies without having the appropriate equipment or the necessary know-how.
BECK therefore sold its problem solutions very successfully at that time. And so it was not long before the first customers soon asked: 'You are so familiar with manhole products and the manhole, can't you repair our manholes yourself?'
BECK also invented and produced many products for this purpose, and invented, tested and produced adaptations of existing problem solutions from other areas that have been consistently optimized for use in the shaft area (e.g. the BECK manhole casting mortar ebralit). The name of the store brand ebra then emerged from E rhard B eck, Ra ppenau.
When writing the first invoice for a shaft repair that had been carried out, Ms. Beck asked her husband how she should appropriately call the work performed. This was the birth of the word 'SHAFT REGULATION'.
These shaft regulations and the necessary products opened up an additional business field, and therefore the company continued to grow from this time on.But the traffic load on our roads rose and rises. As a result, the load for each manhole cone that is run over increases permanently.
BECK recognized early on that hitting manhole covers on the frame is often an acoustic problem. (Everyone knows the 'Tok-Tok' when driving over the striking manhole covers, which is transmitted via the channel like an amplifier into the homes of the residents). BECK developed the anti-rattling ring against this, which is simply inserted under the manhole cover and thus offers a non-metallic contact surface that prevents the lid from rattling. Thousands of residents of such shafts owe their peaceful sleep to BECK and do not even know it.
But BECK was not enough: BECK was one of the first to recognize the weak point of the shaft (comparable to the human intervertebral disc). Hitting the manhole cover in the frame creates an impulse on the manhole cone, which is like a jack hammer blow.
These constantly recurring blows destroy the substructure of the manhole cover.
The Beck family recognized that they had to prevent this blow in order to permanently protect manholes from damage and to significantly extend the service life of the manhole covers.
And so the BECK company did what it does best: invent! In 1999, the BECK company introduced a world first in the market: the anti-rattle insert. With this easy-to-use two-component compound, each manhole cover can be positively fixed in any frame.
This not only prevents metal from hitting metal downwards, it also prevents the lid from hitting the frame laterally. With a BECK anti-rattling insert, both the manhole covers and the manhole defy the traffic load considerably longer!
For this reason, most manufac- turers of manhole covers now have manhole covers with damping inserts in their range, which at least prevent the downward stroke.
A pictorial comparison: If the new manhole cover were a new car, the anti-rattling insert would be the best tuning!
It soon became necessary to subdivide the company into the manufacture, development and sale of products relating to sewer and shaft equipment on the one hand, and in the service area of shaft regulation and shaft renovation on the other. So the know-how and the knowledge from all these areas flowed together again and again at BECK, and made the company and the Beck family over the decades to the innovation drivers and know-how carriers of this civil engineering area, their unique competence and many years of experience and municipalities, civil engineering companies, as well as the manufacturers of manhole covers, like to use and appreciate.
In order to continue to guarantee this confluence of know-how, the field service at BECK is trained in theory and practice right from the start, both in terms of the entire product range and the use of the products and their use on the construction site, so that every contact person can BECK is a sought-after advisor, practitioner and problem solver in all areas around the shaft and its cover.
