Most industries, like the food industry, are heavily dependent on water. This water is mostly discharged, or first purified and then discharged. Companies will try to economize on water, primarily by reusing it. In the food industry, high demands are imposed on the quality of this water.

Environmental engineering’s agency Colsen b.v. designs, specifies and realizes several kinds of wastewater treatment installations for industrial- and communal wastewater. These installations are designed to deal with the local climatological conditions and specific customer demands.

On energy there is in Dutch industry a heavy dependence on fossil fuels. In view of rising energy costs and excessive dependence of this on our own production , there is an alternative and substantial energy desirable for the industry.

A wide variety of situations like ground- or building works could ask for levelling of groundwater. Inventories of the expected quantity of the groundwater to be discharged has to be made. The effect to the environment considered as well. Often the inventory is guided by a levelling plan containing the levelling installations as pumps, filters etc. Licenses for levelling of groundwater and discharging of the groundwater during ground- or building works are necessary to obtain at the administration.

Beside regulations regarding soil operations also soil-water mixtures from dredging are facing strict regulations. Soil-water mixtures are to be examined before the product can be recycled. The department of soil and groundwater can execute these investigations.

Colsen b.v. is able to determine the asbestos through quantity- and the quality methods. Additional analyses of compounds can be executed to determine the asbest content of samples.

In many cases a soil study is required before a building or environmental permit permit can be requested. Also during a sales transfer of the purchase of land a soil quality study (in the form of a clean soil declaration) may be required. The soil study will determine the environmental quality of the soil and the groundwater.

Soil- or groundwater contamination’s above specified limits are necessary to be decontaminated.

Under Dutch law it is NOT allowed to execute activities without prior notification or permit issuance by the (local) authorities. Occasionally the possibility for experimenting has been granted in the permit within the framework of the companies playing field and the dimensions and features of the facilities.
