Josef Willibald began with smaller wage labors in the garage of his uncle. In 1965, he started series production of the first hop cutting implement heralding, the birth of the Willibald implement construction enterprise. This was followed three years later in 1968 by the first flail mulcher, the original member of the still groundbreaking SM family. The improved green waste shredding options offered by the SM series paved the way for more intensive organic viticulture, fruit-growing and agriculture.
The early SM machines that hit the market in 1970 offered a sturdiness and solidity of construction previously unknown, establishing Willibald’s reputation for above-average quality. The excellent name of the Willibald trademark spread quickly throughout Germany and beyond, and led to major growth in exports to Italy, Switzerland and France.
The heavy UFM multi-purpose forestry mulcher developed between 1973 and 1975 for clearing rear lanes and shredding forestry waste represented yet another new and powerful addition to the Willibald product line. In the meantime Willibald provides for every requirement the optimum device: Whether meadows, forests or vineyards - with the intelligent flail-technology the machines are preparing everyone and each environment the best soil - quickly, easily and naturally.
The mobile stone breaker, first presented to professional experts in 1979, is without a doubt one of Willibald’s most innovative products. With its free-swinging flail hammers it disintegrates large quantities of stones scattered over arable land or roads in no time at all.
To cover the ever-growing demand for Willibald products abroad, a new production site is opened in Killorgin, Ireland, in 1980.
The first production hall based in Sentenhart is constructed in 1981 as the extension of the old production site in Altheim proves impossible. The growing awareness within society at this time in regard to residual waste problems opens new, larger and better growth potentials for Willibald.
By now, Willibald is already firmly established as one of the best-known specialists in the field nowadays known as recycling.
Experience in professional composting technology results in 1984 in the construction, design and initial production of the first mobile shredders, still a groundbreaking phenomenon today. The production of the first compost windrow turner (TBU) starts in 1986 and is Willibald’s answer to the increasing demand for quality compost.
J. Willibald GmbH was founded in April 1990.
During the nineties, Willibald focuses its efforts on becoming a system provider to continue satisfying market demands and completing its product offering in close co-operation with screen and sack filling system specialists. Powerful overseas partners open the North American, Asian and African markets for Willibald.
The first special-purpose shredder WSC 2000 is engineered and designed in the years 1994 and 1995.
Designed for the shredding of critical waste wood, this newly developed machine leads the way to the shredding technology of the future.

Regardless of how thick your wood is or how many layers of bulky bush and damp grass there is in the mix, our groundbreaking shredders, compost windrow turners, drum screen and sack fillers transform organic waste products into new soil, nutrient-enriched humus and natural fertilizers or wood chips for fuel in combined heat and power generation plants in the shortest possible time.
Our special premium shredders with sophisticated cutting mechanisms bear testimony to the valuable experience we have gained over many years and our commitment to ongoing technological development. These shredders can crush even the most difficult materials, such as waste wood containing rusty nails or complex industrial waste, in no time at all.
The same goes for our mulchers: As a pioneer in this field, we have solutions for every situation – from meadows and woods to vineyards. Using intelligent flail technology, our machines can work each and every type of land – simply and quickly, and completely naturally.

This obsession affects us all, management and designers, technicians and production. And no one rests until we are all sure we have done our very best!
The list of leading new designs created by Willibald is long and varied. Series production of the world’s first hop cutting machine. Engineering of the SM series flail mulchers that paved the way to large-scale organic viticulture, fruit-growing and agriculture. Construction of our unsurpassed MZA range of premium shredders and the SR 5000 high-end shredder for organic material. And, last but not least, our groundbreaking high-performance shredder for critical products, WSC 2000. But still Willibald will not rest! Our development team is committed to a future full of new and trendsetting Willibald products.
After carefully growing the successful Willibald enterprise into a state-of-the art company with worldwide business activities, we are now focusing our attention on new milestones in production using CAD-based engineering and design, modern mechatronics and new modular product concepts that offer tailored solutions for all fields of application.
