Applications
Johnson Matthey - Cars, Vans and Light Trucks
More than 90% of new passenger vehicles are now fitted with autocatalysts, one third of which have been supplied by Johnson Matthey.
2 and 3-wheel Vehicles
Motorcycles and 3-wheel vehicles. With catalyst forcing legislation now affecting many of the worlds motorcycle markets, Johnson Matthey is ideally placed to supply the catalysts. JM recognises the value of working with our customers to produce the best overall catalyst and vehicle configuration.
Trucks & Buses
Johnson Matthey offers products and technologies for the reduction of emissions from trucks and buses. We provide catalyst and systems technology to engine and vehicle OEMs. We also offer a range of retrofit solutions for the owners and operators of vehicles already in service.
Products and services for Truck and Bus OEMs
Johnson Matthey has decades of experience of working with vehicle and engine manufactures to meet ever more stringent emissions standards. In the field of trucks and buses, this experience is complemented by leading technologies proven over many years in the market.
Mining Non-Road Mobile Machinery
Dealing with diesel emissions at source. Diesel engines are a valuable power source for underground mining but their emissions can be a disadvantage. These emissions are best dealt with at source through the use of exhaust treatment. The need to reduce particulate engines from mining machines is most pressing, driven by new regulations and an increasing understanding of detrimental health effects of exposure to fine particles.
Locomotive-Rail Applications
Maintaining the environmental advantages of rail transport. Regulations covering the emissions from diesel engines in locomotives have not kept pace with the emission limits placed on heavy duty trucks, buses and non-road equipment. However, the US EPA has recently issued New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) for Tier 4 line haul and switcher locomotives. In order to meet these stringent Tier 4 NOx and PM limits, a variety of technologies including zeolite SCR, active-regen DPF, ASC (ammonia slip catalyst) and engine modifications will likely be employed. The CRT and SCRT systems are particularly suitable for these applications and have been gaining extensive field experience in HDD trucks. Johnson Matthey is one of the first companies to introduce Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst for HDD trucks in Europe and our ongoing R&D program will advance the technology for locomotive application.
Marine
Growing concern over the environmental impact of shipping has forced local, regional and global action, requiring reductions in emissions such as Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Sulphur Oxides (SOx), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and Particulate Matter (PM).
Small Utility Engines
Johnson Matthey is one of the first companies to provide catalysts for `green` lawnmowers in Europe and for propane powered floor care equipment in the US. Johnson Matthey provides a complete line of catalysts for both handheld and non-handheld utility engines under 37kW (50hp). Catalyst can be supplied on either ceramic or metal substrates for either rich-burn or lean-burn engines.
Contract Testing
Johnson Matthey Testing, designed to be one of the most advanced testing centres in the industry, is a full service supplier, located in Taylor, Michigan, USA.
Piezo Products
Piezoelectric ceramics, piezo components and piezo modules have been developed, produced and sold in Redwitz, Germany for the past 30 years. More than 100 million piezo products have been sold to different markets worldwide.
