The Fens were England’s greatest wetlands. Now drained, they’re farmed exhaustively. We’ve created a masterplan to restore natural wetland and low-intensity farming, while:

protecting and enhancing natural environments;
creating accessible environments for education and recreation;
developing the local economy;
contributing to climate change adaption and mitigation

Our plan creates jobs and a major carbon sink, absorbing 320,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. It enables the growth of biomass crops, floodwater attenuation, the protection of habitats and species; while also involving communities and attracting visitors. We’ve restored a natural balance which includes productive agriculture and space for people.
