Electric Drive Vehicle Career and Technical Education Training

This five day course helps participants understand electric drive vehicles and how they operate differently from conventionally fueled vehicles. Participants will learn how to safely maintain hybrid electric and electric drive vehicles. The information covered in the course has helped participants pass the ASE L3 course. The number electric drive vehicles is growing every year. Mandates such as the Federal Energy Policy Act require most large fleets to include alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) in ever-growing numbers. In addition, many consumers have chosen electric drive vehicles.

Gaseous Fuels and Gaseous Fuel Vehicles Training

Rising concerns on the effects of fossil fuels on the world’s environment combined with their increased cost when compared with alternative fuels are making gaseous fuel vehicles more common on our nation’s roadways. With increased vehicle use, the chance of these new technologies being involved in a vehicular accident also increases. First responders need to be trained on the differences between these vehicles and their conventional counterparts and on the proper procedures for safely addressing incidents involving compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, propane autogas, and hydrogen powered vehicles. This course is designed to educate firefighters, law enforcement, and emergency medical services personnel on the properties and procedures to follow when dealing with gaseous fuel vehicles. Anyone can attend these classes as a participant, however only a first responder with a training background can participate in a train-the-trainer specific course.

First Responder Safety Training: Biofuels and Biofuel Vehicles

This four hour course is designed to educate firefighters, law enforcement, and emergency medical services personnel on the properties and procedures to follow when dealing with biofuel powered vehicles. Anyone can attend these classes as a participant, however only a first responder with a training background can participate in a train-the-trainer specific course.

General Motors - Electric Vehicle Safety Training for First Responders

This one-hour awareness training course, sponsored by General Motors, is designed for first responders to gain a comprehensive understanding of electric and hybrid vehicles. As the prevalence of electric vehicles on roads continues to rise, it is essential for emergency personnel to be equipped with the unique skills and knowledge required to handle incidents involving these vehicles. The course offers insights into distinct response methodologies compared to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. Participants will be provided with vital data and resources, empowering them with strategies to enhance safety during emergency situations. The course content highlights practical aspects and tools needed for efficient response management involving high-voltage systems in electric vehicles, thereby improving overall incident preparedness and response effectiveness among first responders.

NAFTC - Alternative Fuel Vehicles - Automotive Recycling Safety Training

As the prevalence of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) continues to grow, it becomes vital for automotive recycling operators to understand the unique safety considerations these vehicles present. The National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium provides a comprehensive online course aimed at equipping operators with the necessary knowledge for handling AFVs and EVs in recycling settings. The training encompasses key characteristics of these vehicles, safety procedures, and potential hazards. The course is self-paced, accessible worldwide via the internet, and includes seven chapters followed by a comprehensive test. Upon successful completion, participants may earn a printable certificate. This specialized training is essential to ensure safety and proper protocols in the recycling industry as more AFVs reach the end of their life cycles.

Alternative Fuel and Electric Vehicle First Responder Safety Training

Available for groups only, this training educates first responders on the properties and procedures to follow when dealing with alternative fuel vehicles (AFV), including electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). Participants are trained on the differences between AFVs, EVs, HEVs and their conventional counterparts and on the proper procedures for safely addressing incidents involving natural gas, propane autogas, hydrogen, electric drive, ethanol and biofuel powered vehicles. Participants learn the steps required to secure an AFV/EV/HEV, how to rescue occupants from a damaged vehicle, and proper fire response to an alternative fuel or battery fire. The training details the risks and hazards common to AFV/EV/HEV storage, including high-voltage batteries and high pressure gaseous fuel cylinders.
