The estimates of operational life above are based on 250mW, 3-byte Argos transmissions with a 60-second repetition rate at 10°C. Argos transmissions are typically duty-cycled for an average of closer to the 4-hours/day example. Dimensions are exclusive of antenna or additional attachment options. Weights include a lightweight antenna, but other antenna options and attachment options may add weight.

Telonics GPS/Iridium units can be used to remotely obtain location and other data from animals anywhere in the world. Telonics Quick Fix Pseudoranging (QFP) can be incorporated into these units. They can include mortality, activity, and temperature sensors; and geofencing technology. Users can define GPS, Iridium, VHF, and sensor schedules to best meet their project requirements. Iridium is a two-way system, which allows confirmation of messages received and remote modification of programmed parameters.

Telonics VHF transmitters designed for avian applications on larger birds group into two categories based on packaging and electronic technologies, and provide options for instrumenting birds weighing down to ~500 grams. The models described below can be provided with various attachment options. Researchers can choose the most effective mounting technique for specific species as discussed further below and at the time of order. Some attachment options add weight to what is indicated below.
