Energy & Environment Services

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Services

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is the process by which the anticipated effects on the environment of a proposed development or project are measured.

Environmental Monitoring Services

Environmental Monitoring involves looking at the evolving state of health of the ecology and habitat in question, either as a snapshot,  in individual monitoring events, or over time, in environmental monitoring programmes. TOBIN Consulting Engineers have many years of experience in the sampling and reporting of environmental parameters. Long term, routine monitoring studies can include monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, with trending, and also comparative studies using ongoing data collection, to assess any potential impact that a development may be having on the local and regional environment.

River Engineering Services

River Engineering is the process of planned human intervention in the characteristics, course or flow of a river, in order to achieve improvement through flood protection, improved navigation along or across a river, and through better management of water resources.

Drinking Water Incident Management Services

There have been several high-profile water supply incidents in Ireland in recent years, ranging from cryptosporidium contamination, to lead exceedances, to flooding and loss of supply. Ireland suffered two extreme winters, in 2009-2010 and again in 2010-2011, resulting in extensive and protracted supply interruptions across the country.  In addition, serious flooding across parts of the island in November 2009 resulted in the inundation of a number of large water treatment works.  These incidents have highlighted the urgency of putting systems in place to protect drinking water supplies, both in terms of prevention and responding to incidents when they happen.

Coastal Engineering Services

Ireland has a proportionately large coastline for a country of its size. The conditions, both physically and environmentally vary significantly from East to West, from the Atlantic to the Irish Sea, and from one individual location to another. In the East, the coastal zones are reasonably regular, an indication of their relative protection; in the West, the coastlines are very indented and rugged, evidence of their exposure to the extremes of the Atlantic weather. However, all our coastal areas are subject to the broad environmental changes that other countries are suffering. Much of the TOBIN experience has been developed through our portfolio of projects, many of which are marine engineering projects in themselves, or have involved marine elements.
