Remediation
Archaeology For Remediation
By their very nature, a large number of the civil engineering and remediation projects undertaken by VHE, have involved extensive earthworks operations. A key element of these involves historical research during design development to establish the historical significance of the site.
Biophysical Treatment For Remediation
VHE has significant experience of undertaking biophysical remediation using their extensive in house resources. This involves the treatment of contaminated material involving the natural degradation of contaminants by bacteria. The majority of bioremediation schemes undertaken in recent years have involved the placement of material into windrows. Where space is restricted, we have also undertaken schemes using biopiles which are aerated and heated internally by pipework, enabling treatment in colder weather conditions.
Remediation Earthworks
Supported by a large modern plant fleet, VHE is competitive throughout the UK in undertaking bulk earthworks as part of remediation, reclamation, infrastructure and development projects. Recycling of excavated materials into high value material and the production of development platforms with marginal materials are common features within these schemes.
Ecology For Remediation
Environmental considerations play a major part in the determination of the most cost effective and appropriate solution for the engineering challenges posed by many sites. Whilst a large number of our projects involve delivering innovative remediation solutions, we are aware of our role in protecting the environment as a whole. On an increasing number of occasions, we have employed experts to deal with ecologically sensitive sites involving the preservation of habitats and protection of flora and fauna.
Groundwater Treatment
VHE provides groundwater treatment services on almost every remediation project we undertake. We carry out the design, construction and operation of the treatment facilities using in-house resources. We have significant experience of treating water arising from excavations or from within existing underground holder tanks contaminated with organics (LNAPLs and DNAPLs) and heavy metals. Prior to water being returned to the environment, it is treated using a combination of activated carbon filters, oil and water separators, sand filters and pre-setting tanks.
Civil Engineering
Demolition for Civil Engineering
VHE offers a wide range of demolition services from the break-out and removal of foundations and other underground structures to the demolition of buildings as part of wider reclamation schemes. On large scale projects we often co-ordinate and manage major demolition packages carried out by established demolition contractors from our approved supply chain.
Highways for Civil Engineering
We have successfully delivered highways projects throughout the UK for a number of years. These have included major motorway projects, working in joint venture with other national contractors, but more recently, major and regional highway schemes in our own right up to £20 million individual value. These include both public infrastructure schemes as well as those in the commercial sector.
Landfill for Civil Engineering
Over the years, VHE has developed an excellent reputation as a remediation contractor able to deal with a wide variety of projects. Many of these have involved the remediation of historical former landfill sites, including unlicensed sites with little control or records of the material deposited. This experience and knowledge is invaluable to modern landfill site operators and waste companies, tasked with managing their facilities in a controlled and efficient manner. Being used to working with such material and in such an environment, we are able to add enormous value to their operations.
Park and Ride Services
In recent years, VHE has recognised the importance of taking an integrated approach to our transport needs. We have ensured that we have the necessary skills and resources to successfully deliver the UK’s requirements for new park and ride sites. Many of these are located on former use sites thus requiring our remediation expertise to convert them whilst minimising the amount of material transported to landfill and keeping the carbon footprint to a minimum. Our infrastructure skills are able to complement our remediation and earthworks capabilities to provide an integrated approach to delivering park and ride sites for our customers through seamless integration. As well as the earthworks and highways elements, we are able to deliver the drainage, security, services, landscaping and building element s as part of our comprehensive approach.
