This seminar aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the European Union’s legislation and policy framework on plastics, with a particular focus on how these measures align with and contribute to global initiatives addressing plastic pollution. Through expert presentations and interactive discussions, the seminar will explore the main EU legislation and policies, how they fit within the latest developments in the field, as well as their relevance to international agreements such as the upcoming global plastics treaty.  The programme is designed to foster dialogue among policymakers, stakeholders, and practitioners, encouraging knowledge exchange and cooperation at both regional and international levels.

This online seminar will discuss the recent EU judgments on the intersection of fundamental rights and environmental protection. Focus will be placed on the recent case law of the ECtHR as well as the CJEU while also comparing the distinct approaches of both Courts to environmental protection. The practical-oriented approach will allow for a takeaway message on current key issues in environmental litigation, including access to justice, admissibility issues and signals for domestic systems.

The seminar will provide participants with an overview of the two European Directives prohibiting discrimination on the grounds of race or ethnic origin in a number of areas, as well as on disability, age, sexual orientation or religion/belief in employment and occupation. Furthermore, topical and current issues in this field will be  discussed. Interaction among participants will be encouraged through periods of discussion and working groups requiring their active participation.
