Albion Environmental Ltd continues to provide a comprehensive service to companies either wishing to enter the waste and recycling market or expand their existing premises.

We had a number of successes over the last year with planning permission being gained for a number of facilities. We develop a close link with the client and with their key contractors. This ensures maximum use of all resources.

Our preferred option is to work in conjunction with the client’s local planning expert, and provide the necessary technical support as required. This has the advantage that any public opposition to the proposal will be more obvious and clearly identified by the client and local planning expert. Work can then be done, at a local level, to resolve and minimise these issues. This strategy has proved very successful in the past with planning permission being gained for 100% of the sites applied for. Unfortunately the planning application process is extremely slow and can be influenced by political pressures rather than true environmental issues. Frequently applications will have to go to appeal either due to the slow progress being made at council level or due to refusal by the Planning Committee.

Albion Environmental Ltd specialises in preparing appeals to gain planning permission. Again we have won 100% of all appeals applied for. The most recent appeal also resulted in Albion Environmental Ltd being awarded costs due to the “unreasonable behavior of the local authority”.

We provide a complete service to prepare a Waste Management Licence application or modification. This service as standard includes preparation of Working Plan, completion of SEPA application form and calculation of financial provision. We also provide assistance with site layout, site documentation and surface water and groundwater issues. We currently have a range of clients applying for Waste Management Licences.

Under Waste Management Licencing Regulations 1994 there is a whole range of exemptions from the requirement to hold a Waste Management Licence. Depending on the activity being proposed it is possible to carry out these activities without a Waste Management Licence. This is a particularly good option if a client is trying to move into a new area and wishes to carry out field trials prior to expanding the operation. The regulations, which apply to some of the exemptions, has recently changed and become more complex. In any case they are often useful tools to allow expansion or gain quick approval for activities, which are not covered by the site’s Waste management Licence. We have some clients who operate most of their activities under Waste Management Licensing exemptions. We provide this service across the UK for a whole range of clients.

The Albion team has considerable experience developing and preparing tenders. A number of our staff were formerly bid managers for major PF/PPP type projects and are extremely experienced in putting together bids. This is backed up by considerable experience in the operational and practical aspects of servicing such a contract. We are currently working with a number of clients providing pricing and operational details for major waste management tenders. This work is currently ongoing and is confidential.
