Environmental Consultancy, EIA and Strategic Environmental Assessment

RPS has been undertaking environmental assessments since before the European Council Directive 85/337/EEC (the EIA Directive) came into force in the UK in 1985. In an average year RPS Planning & Development may undertake between 40 and 60 impact assessments, primarily for private sector clients. We have considerable experience of undertaking environmental assessments in accordance with the following legislation. Our philosophy is that the design of projects, both large and small, should be an iterative process between the client, the scheme designer, and the environmental consultants/assessors. For the majority of the assessments of major transport projects we have undertaken we have been involved from an early stage in the scheme development and have been able to influence the design, sometimes significantly.
