Reclamation Plus Mine Closure Planning Service

Rescan’s reclamation and mine closure planning department provides services for proposed, operating, and closed/historic developments. Mine closure planning is necessary at all stages of mine operations but now mines are typically designed for closure from the onset of project development. Reclamation and Closure planning is found within preliminary economic assessments (43-101), pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, operation plans, and due diligences.

They have experience working in arctic and sub-arctic tundra biomes, boreal and temperate deciduous forests, coastal and interior wetlands, and tropical-subtropical biomes around the world. Rescan encourages the active participation of local community experts in field studies, as well as in research and monitoring projects. Rescan strives to facilitate the integration of knowledge transfer in all its projects.

Toxicology + Risk Assessment

Rescan provides specialized services in toxicology, human health effects assessment, and ecological risk assessment for mines and industrial developments. Risk assessment is a rapidly evolving approach to evaluating the likelihood of adverse impacts to people or to ecological resources which are exposed to environmental stressors. It provides vital information regarding the significance of potential impacts relative to economic, social, and legal considerations. Rescan’s toxicologists, aquatic ecologists, terrestrial ecologists, environmental chemists, engineers and social scientists integrate their knowledge to conduct risk assessments in BC, Canada, and internationally.

The wetland science group at Rescan has expertise in wetland ecosystem classification, mapping, function assessment, as well as hydrological and biological assessments. Rescan’s team has experience working across Canada in Arctic-permafrost systems, in the Prairie Pothole Region, the Maritimes and British Columbia.
