Road and Runway Sensors

OTT HydroMet - Mobile Advanced Road Weather Information Sensor

LUFFT MARWIS is the first road and runway weather sensor detecting road conditions, temperatures, friction and other parameters mobile and in real time from driving vehicles. The mobile road weather sensor MARWIS turns vehicles into driving weather stations by detecting several critical road and runway weather parameters. It can be installed on vehicles with a distance of 1 - 2m above the surface and delivers information about temperatures, waterfilm heights, dew points, road conditions (dry, moist, wet, snow, ice), ice percentages, rel. humidity and friction with a frequency of up to 100 times per second. It serves as an important decision support with regard to preventive gritting. Due to the open interface protocols, MARWIS can be easily integrated into existing winter maintenance monitoring networks. Similarly, the mobile road sensor can communicate directly with the control system on gritting vehicles. The measurement data output supports the protocol UMB binary.

OTT HydroMet - Non-Invasive Road Sensor

The LUFFT NIRS31 is a non-invasive road weather sensor with optical principle. It is mounted several meters above the ground and can even monitor bridges. The LUFFT NIRS31 is a non-invasive road weather sensor working with optical principle and is mounted several meters above the surface at bridges or masts. It measures surface conditions such as wetness, ice, snow, or frost as well as water film heights, ice percentage in water, and freezing point temperature. Through these measurements, it generates the friction coefficient on the road or runway.

OTT HydroMet - Intelligent Passive Road Sensor

The passive road sensor IRS31Pro convinces by its two-part housing design and accurate detection of road surface temperature, water film height, freezing temperature, ice percentage, and many more. The passive road sensor IRS31Pro is flush-mounted in the road. The two-part housing design allows the combined sensor/electronics unit to be removed for maintenance or calibration at any time. The following variables are recorded: Road surface temperature, water film height up to 4 mm, freezing temperature for different de-icing materials (NaCl, MgCl, CaCl), road condition (dry/damp/wet/ice or snow, damp with salt, wet with salt), friction (Grip), ice percentage. Optional: 2 additional depth temperatures, e.g. at 5 cm and 30 cm. The measurement data is available for further processing in the form of the LUFFT UMB standard protocol.

OTT HydroMet - Intelligent Active Road Sensor

The active ARS31Pro sensor is flush-mounted in the road or runway surface and measures the freezing temperature by means of active cooling and heating of the sensor surface. through this, it`s indepented from the de-icing material. In addition it measures the road surface temperature. This surface temperature sensor is integrated into a second housing which is connected with the ARS31Pro-UMB. The distance between the two housings is 50 cm. One additional measurement is carried out in order to find out critical conditions in the next few hours. This early alert message delivers extra road surface condition information in addition to the real time road conditions. The two-section housing design allows the combined electronics unit to be removed for maintenance purposes at any time, in just a few minutes. In conjunction with the interface converter 8160.UISO, the sensor can be built into new and existing UMB networks. The sensors are addressable and can be networked.

OTT HydroMet - Intelligent Active Road Weather Sensor

The embedded active road weather sensor LUFFT ARS31 detects freezing temperatures independently from de-icing materials and is easy to maintain through its two parted housing. The active road sensor LUFFT ARS31 is installed flush with the road/runway surface and calculates the freezing temperature by means of active cooling and heating of the sensor surface. The freezing temperature measurement is independent of mixture. The two-section housing design allows the combined sensor/electronics unit to be removed for maintenance purposes at any time, in just a few minutes. In conjunction with interface converter 8160.UISO, the sensor can be built into new and existing UMB networks. Passive sensor IRS31 and active sensor ARS31 can be combined without difficulty, in fact this is recommended. The sensors are addressable and hence can be networked.

OTT HydroMet - Passive Road Surface Temperature Sensor

Surface temperature sensor for runway and highway-temperatures. The surface temperature sensor measures runway and highway-temperatures highly precise, both on asphalt and concrete. Passive Road Surface Temperature Sensor LUFFT WST2 can be used with LUFFT UMB-ANACON converter (8160.UANA).
