Waterleau was created in 2000 by five entrepreneurs with many years of experience in the water and wastewater technology. The track record its founders results in new water projects as from the early start. In 2001, Waterleau acquired air treatment technology with the acquisition of the air treatment division of Monsanto Enviro-Chem systems. In 2004 Waterleau acquires BIOTIM from the Suez group, a provider anaerobic wastewater treatment technology. In 2006, Waterleau acquires the air treatment activities of Socrématic and creates Waterleau France as its competence center for air treatment. To improve on flexibility and to protect its know-how, Waterleau integrates Schepens Air & Solids, to become its workshop and manufacturer of key-components for the Waterleau treatment plants. In 2014, Waterleau acquired IBH W2E Consulting Engineers, consultants in the design, erection, and maintenance of Waste-to-Energy and biomass plants, located near Brussels.

The same year, Waterleau acquires Kary-Planaqua, the German specialist in water- and wastewater treatment and biogas production.

In 2015 Waterleau acquires Ecovation and Krofta from Ecolab. Ecovation, changes name to become Waterleau Inc, The new Waterleau US office will expand its range of treatment solutions strengthening Waterleau’s position on the North American market. The acquisition of Krofta, world leader in the design and construction of Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) clarifier systems, confirms Waterleau’s strategy of investing in its technology portfolio.
